Last night did not go well for Vanderbilt
The Dores lost by 12 in overtime to Xavier, their second loss of the season, both of which have been at Memorial Gym, a place the Dores rarely lose. That’s really too bad because Vanderbilt probably played their best defensive game of the year and still got beat. Xavier plays tough defense, goes after it on the glass, and goes hard after 50/50 balls. Vanderbilt got killed on the boards, and...

Of course they did.
Kentucky entered its final football game of the season on Saturday a decided failure, their 4-7 record preventing them from going to a bowl game for the first time in five years. The Wildcats were fresh off two consecutive losses, one an embarrassing loss to Vanderbilt, the other a fumble-fest against a barely-awake Georgia Bulldogs team that did just enough to lock up the SEC East title. The Cats...

James Franklin HATES Same Old Vandy, and it's... →
It doesn’t take a genius to appreciate that James Franklin has basically turned Vanderbilt football on it’s ear this, his first season as Vandy’s head coach. But Stephen Godfrey’s article on SBNation is absolutely fantastic. I’m a Kentucky fan who follows Vanderbilt pretty closely, but reading stuff like this makes me want to sign up as a graduate assistant just to be...

Thanksgiving Plans
Thanks to football and my outsized ambition, this is going to be a really busy Thanksgiving week for me. WEDNESDAY: The freedom-haters at my office require us to be at work pretty much all day, but that won’t stop me from half-assing it until enough people leave early that I, in turn, feel comfortable leaving early. Also, I will be brining (brine-ing?) a turkey that I’m going to...

Above: Marquis Teague, probably throwing the ball out of bounds. I KEED I made the godawful mistake of wading into the comments section of Kentucky Sports Radio this afternoon when I followed a link from A Sea of Blue mentioning Teague’s progress measured against Kentucky’s last two starting freshman point guards, John Wall and Brandon Knight (note: he’s doing okay). Aside...

The Sporting Weekend
Quick recap of games I watched: I didn’t know Okie State lost to Iowa State until like late Saturday afternoon. I didn’t know Oklahoma lost until Sunday morning. Clearly, I have checked out of college football EXCEPT I will totally watch LSU play Arkansas this weekend. That will be awesome. I tried to come up with an analogy for Kentucky football involving an idiot savant, but it...

Hotdoggin'?
I was on the road all day yesterday so I didn’t get a chance to post my reaction to the Kentucky game, but my guess is it would have been just like 30 other peoples’ post-game writeups. Instead, I listened to sports talk radio all day, which made my brain hurt. Aside from talking about the actual basketball game, a popular topic seemed to be old white people bitching about what Cats...

Did I watch basketball last night?
I watched some. It wasn’t terribly entertaining, to be honest. I watched Steve Masiello’s Manhattan Jaspers try to score points by jamming their elbows into Syracuse’s frontcourt all night. Not a successful game plan, as it turns out. Added bonus: I didn’t even know Steve “Human Victory Cigar” Masiello was a head coach, but it does explain why his players...

Stacey Poole to leave UK. Good luck. →
I said this earlier, but we never saw him on the floor. Like, ever. I would have liked to keep him around because he might have been a contributor as an upperclassman, but when Jarrod Polson’s getting more clock than you are, maybe it’s time to part ways. Best of luck to him, wherever he goes.

Bobby Big Wheel: A Top Tweeter List That Doesn't... →
bobbybigwheel: Some douchebags did a “top 100 sports tweeters” list that you knew sucked because it had Darren Rovell and Ashton Kutcher on it. Since I hate strat and love people who are actually funny, here are my top 25 Tweeters, with an example of his or her (there’s a girl on here!) brilliance. Oh, and I’m… I follow most of these. He forgot @AbGatorade though: “Sean Miller...

This Weekend in Sports
None of you care what I’m doing this weekend, but I’ll tell you anyway. Tonight I’m packing my wife, my kid, and my dog in the car and driving to Nashville. We will listen to Kentucky play Marist on the radio. I will enjoy listening to everything Tom Leach and Mike Pratt have to say about the game. My wife will enjoy it for a while until she gets bored and wants to listen to...

Sports R Bad
I am a pretty big sports fan. I watch a lot of ESPN and suffer through local sports talk radio. I watch football on Thursdays occasionally, Saturdays always, and Sundays if the Bengals are on. I don’t think I’ve missed a Kentucky basketball game in almost twenty years. I like sports so much I started following Vanderbilt sports when I met my now-wife, a Vanderbilt alumna and former...

Calling off the Cats
Kentucky had a 30 point lead, like, eight minutes into the game. Every possession was worthy of a Top 10 appearance on SportsCenter. Not kidding. Unbelievable. Before the game last night, I said “I just hope to see some improvement over the Transy game.” The Cats apparently heard that and said “fuck you,” in the nicest way possible, on their way to scoring 74 points or...
