Vanderbilt Senior Night
Tonight’s the last game in Memorial Gym for Brad Tinsley, Steve Tchiengang, Festus Ezeli, Jeffery Taylor, Lance Goulbourne, and probably John Jenkins as the Commies take on Florida. Florida’s been on a bit of a slide lately, thanks in no small part to the season-ending injury to forward Will Yeguete. I look at Yeguete as a role-player for the Gators at best, but his loss has had more...

Gravity's Gone: ATTN: BOURBON DRINKERS →
gravitysgone: I know there are plenty of you out there who follow me. The wife loves bourbon, I can’t even smell the stuff without feeling sick. Which saddens me, but the less said about why the better! I’ve made it my mission in life to find and purchase random bourbon she’s never bloody heard of. So far this… First, bourbon isn’t made in Tennessee. If you’re looking for...

WALK-OFF PT. 2: Vanderbilt at Kentucky
The Commodores visit Rupp Arena tomorrow at noon for a rematch from their home loss to the Cats two weeks ago in front of a rowdy GameDay crowd and a lot of finger wagging from Digger Phelps. This should, again, be an interesting game because Vanderbilt has plenty of talent and experience to give Kentucky trouble. However, some interesting things have happened since February 11: Jeffery Taylor...

WHEW.
Whew is a weird word; it doesn’t mean anything. Similarly, a Kentucky loss at Mississippi State might not have meant much in the grand scheme of things, but the come from behind, gut it out, get your shit together win did. Kentucky didn’t play their best basketball at any point last night. Doron Lamb and other constantly left shooters, specifically Jalen Steele (kid can SHOOT), open on...

What Happened in SEC Basketball?
Kentucky struggled a little bit with foul trouble but cruised in the second half to beat Ole Miss 77-62. Vanderbilt didn’t play all that awesome, either, but Georgia is terrible so the Dores won on the road 61-52 yesterday. Both the Kentucky and Vandy performances were letdowns in that they didn’t match the intensity of their previous games. Wins are wins, though, so that’s...

Vanderbilt went OFF last night
Vanderbilt 102, Ole Miss 76: Let’s put it this way: When Jeffery Taylor has more than 20 points by HALFTIME, the other team probably isn’t going to win. Ole Miss, who actually packed the house for this game, never had a chance. Taylor and John Jenkins were perfect from three for most of the game and Taylor in particular tried to break the goals off their posts with some thunderdunks in...

We Talkin' 'Bout Practice
Kentucky is broadcasting an open practice on ESPN3, ESPNU, WKYT, and UKAthletics.com today. Chances are, if you follow Kentucky basketball, you already knew that. Tim Brando on his radio show today said it was a ridiculous publicity stunt that shouldn’t be allowed to take place. I’m confident that the local UofL afternoon call-in show will be rife with complaints about it. So what if...

Last Night in SEC Basketball
Did I actually watch all of these games? No. The only one I watched was snippets of Mississippi State at LSU during commercials for “Justified,” which is something I think you can excuse me for. MS State at LSU: That Henderson kid for LSU seems to be getting better every game. This was actually a tight, if low-scoring, contest, highlighted by bricked threes and Renardo Sidney walking...

Just Being
The whole point of this Tumblr is for me to be able to talk about sports, post funny pictures, and generally for an outlet for what limited creativity I possess. I started blogging a few years ago because I thought I could be funny and in-depth like Spencer Hall (then Orson Swindle) at Every Day Should Be Saturday but instead I’d just talk about Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Obviously,...

GameDay Chatter with Vanderbilt Sportsline
Me: Okay, this doesn't have to get all boring breakdowny because I've already done enough of that today. FIRST: Is Vandy doing a blackout, white out, gold out, or "throw the administration forcing its anti-discrimination policy"-out for the game?
VSL: Vandy loves a good "hate on the administration" rally, and equally loves a gold-out or white-out, but interestingly enough nothing is planned. So I'll just say the third option, since that requires no color choice. I know he has been waiting for this game all season to do it. Is this the game we finally see Anthony Davis wax his unibrow?
Me: Social media being what it is among Davis's age group, he's well aware that people make fun of him for the unibrow. Credit goes to him, though, for embracing that godawful thing. That said, I guarantee he shaves/waxes the thing the instant he declares for the NBA draft in April. I understand that in order to get into GameDay and the men's game, Vanderbilt's [whatever it is that is in charge of ticket sales/not athletic department] Vandy students had to go to the women's game Thursday night. I know Vandy has a world-renowned hospital, but will it be prepared for the inevitable cooties outbreak from that game?
VSL: Inside information says that Vanderbilt will be burying Cat fans under Dudley Field before they let them in the camera's view. Is Calipari a Dapper Dan man? His hair looks like you could snap a bit off to pick your teeth. Its amazing how it doesn't move during games.
Me: It's a skill he reputedly learned from Rick Pitino and Pat Riley. Stallings doesn't meet the follicular requirements to get in the club. DISCRIMINATION! The deck is clearly stacked against Kentucky tomorrow because it playing at Memorial and is not a team whose school name ends in "State". What chance do the Cats possibly have to win under such long odds?
VSL: Not much of a chance, especially given how well the Vandy bench is playing. Jeremy Lin has nothing on Kyle Fuller! Sorry this is so sporadic. Just drove up here for the game. Free tickets baby!
Me: NBD. I don't know how you managed to get free tickets, but I hope the season ticket holders that you stole them from and then tied up and left them in their own basement find it in their hearts to forgive you. I tried the same thing but ran out of duct tape. Have fun!

IT'S A WALK-OFF: Kentucky at Vanderbilt
Big game at Memorial Gym tomorrow night as Kentucky visits the Commodores. This game marks the first of three remaining road games that Kentucky could potentially lose, the other two being at Mississippi State and at Florida. Looking at matchups in the starting line-ups, it’s easy to think that Vanderbilt has more than a puncher’s chance to win this game. Vanderbilt runs mostly a...

Kentucky Sports Radio » Blog Archive » Everything... →
This is insane, and probably to be expected. Kentucky fans are actually organizing to “Occupy Memorial” on Saturday: sneaking into the GameDay taping, throwing a big party at one the bars on Broadway near campus, etc. I’m a Kentucky fan first and a Vandy fan second, so I’m not sure whether to be proud or concerned. I’m glad Vandy’s getting their moment in the...

Vanderbilt: TAHHGER BAYYT?
LSU roulez’s (franglais!) into Memorial Gym tonight for a hawt date with the suddenly sputtering Vanderbilt Commodores. LSU is big, fast, and athletic, and they are a pretty awful basketball team. LSU is kind of like the Alabama of yesteryear: full of athletes that cannot execute offense if their lives depended on it. That doesn’t mean they can’t beat Vanderbilt, however. ...
